Description
From the 1870s until the turn of the century, many Japanese steam locomotives were British imports that greatly resembled those built for the domestic market, as well as some built for service in Africa, Australia, India, and other export markets. This display case at the Plaza Loco museum (Shin-Kanaya Station, Oigawa Railway) shows three British imports, all of them built in Glasgow, Scotland by future constituents of the North British Locomotive Company. From right to left (oldest to newest):
JGR 6200-class 4-4-0 No. 225 (Neilson & Co. Hyde Park Locomotive Works), 1897
JGR 2120-class 0-6-2 tank engine No. 2146 (Dubs & Company), 1898
JGR 7850-class 2-6-0 (Mogul), indeterminate number (Dubs & Company), 1898

My goodness! They're all so beautifully British indeed! They're British in every sense except for their gauge! I love Japan's early steam railways!
