Description

Built by the Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Works (AKA the Voroshilovgrad "October Revolution" Works), the M62 is one of the most common and useful diesel locomotives in the world. 3300 were built from 1965 to 1980, initially for Hungary, but also for the USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, East Germany, North Korea, Mongolia, and even Cuba. The M62 had many nicknames, and was known to the Russians as "Masha," meaning "Mary." Masha is capable of all kinds of work, and the clean lines of this very first Masha are a testament to the enduring utility of this classic diesel.

In Poland we call these things, or it's siblings, the 'Gagarins'.
