Description
The first Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 electric locomotive was No. 4800. Built by General Electric in 1934, it had a riveted body, which earned it the nickname "Old Rivets." PRR management liked the performance but not the rivets, and asked industrial designer Raymond Loewy to help re-design the GG1. Loewy recommended a welded body, which was used on all mass-production GG1s. Old Rivets is on static display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.
