LNWR Ramsbottom 0-6-0 Special Tank

Description

The London Northwestern Railway (LNWR) called it the Special Tank, but this 0-6-0 saddle-tank adapted from John Ramsbottom's DX-class goods engine was fairly standard.  It was introduced in 1870 for shunting, and served the LNWR, LMS, and British Railways until 1959.  Crewe built almost 280 Special Tanks, most of which kept the Ramsbottom-style smokebox, as seen on this model at the National Railway Museum.  I can't help but see similarities to this in the WWII-era Austerity Tank.

I see the resemblance to the Coal Engine! I like that smokebox style too, a similar hinged one is on my S4-a Berkshire design.
