Description

Most of the Fairbourne Railway's 12.25-inch gauge locomotives were originally built for the Reseau Guerledan in France, and were shipped to Britain after the French railway closed.  One of these engines is Beddgelert, a smaller-scale replica of a North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways (NWNGR) 0-6-4 tank engine.  Beddgelert was originally named David Curwen after its builder, but was renamed for an engine built by Hunslet in 1878 and run on the Tryfan-Bryngwyn branch line until it was scrapped in 1906.  While other engines such as Russell and Sherpa take the Fairbourne Railway's trains to Barmouth and back, Beddgelert sits at the entrance to Fairbourne Station, collecting donations to fund its restoration to operating condition.  Notice the poster by the front of the engine, an advertisement featuring a red Beddgelert and the promise of a butterfly pavilion.  Now Beddgelert is black and the butterfly pavilion has been replaced with a model railway.

Now all we need is a couple hundred-thousand pounds and we could build a full size replica and run it with Russell on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway!
