Description

This 4-6-0 (10-wheeler) steam locomotive was built by Burnham, Williams and Company in 1902 and has worked for three railroads.  Its first owner was the Cincinnati, Richmond and Muncie Railroad (CR&M), which designated it No. 108.  With a weight of only 140 tons and a tractive effort of 23,162 pounds, the locomotive was well-suited for the CR&M's light rails.  Unfortunately, that railroad went bankrupt and was taken over by the Chicago, Cincinnati and Louisville Railroad (CC&L), which took over No. 108.  The CC&L also went bankrupt, and was taken over by the much larger and more solvent Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) in 1909.  Renumbered 377, the locomotive was used on James River Line trains out of Clifton Forge, Virginia, and later on the Craig Valley branch line between Eagle Rock and New Castle.  It was retired in 1952 after fifty years of service and put on display in Logan, West Virginia to represent a locomotive used on the Logan branch line.  In 1971, the C&O donated No. 377 to the B&O Railroad Museum, where it has sat on display ever since.

One thing I find very ironic is that, given the number of times I've visited the B&O museum, I never did ONCE see this locomotive! The next time I fins my way back up there I'll have to fix that. ;p
