Description
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) used the Supermarine Spitfire not only as a fighter but also as a photo recon plane. In this role, it was designated PR.XI. Some PR.XI Spitfires were bought by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF), which flew them from 1943 to 1945. A PR.XI of the 14th Photographic Squadron is on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio).
