Description

This diorama at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio) depicts the crash of a U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) North American BT-14 "Yale" trainer.  The cadet, now being subjected to a stern lecture by his flight instructor, was taxiing with the wind behind him when he slammed on the brakes, lifting the tail and driving the nose into the ground.  This kind of mishap would often result in dismissal; even during World War II, a good 40 percent of cadets did not complete flight training.
