Tokyo Streets in 1929

This diorama at the Great Kanto Earthquake Memorial Museum shows how the streets of Tokyo looked around 1929.  After the earthquake, Tokyo was rebuilt to be less flammable, roads were widened to accommodate cars and tramways, and the Tokyo Metro began running its first subway trains in 1927.  Compared to modern downtown Tokyo, this diorama is far less crowded.
