The Three Soviet Engines

Description

Saint Petersburg, October Railway Museum at the former Warsaw Terminal. From left to right are three engines that would have served on Soviet railways in the 1950s. Left: Da-class diesel, same as Alco's RS-1 road switcher. Center: P36-class engine #251, the last Soviet-built express engine and one of a very handsome class. Right: LV-class heavy freight engine, whose lifespan was all too short. Together, these three engines brought me back to that era when steam and diesel were almost brothers, before the withdrawals and scrappings began.
