Description
Atlantic Coast Line (ACL) E3 streamlined diesel locomotive No. 501 The Champion (EMC, 1939) is displayed next to Seaboard Air Line (SAL) Decapod (2-10-0) steam locomotive No. 544 (ALCO, 1918) in the Bob Julian Roundhouse of the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer. No. 544 was built for Russia as E-1198, hence the nickname "Russian Decapod," but its delivery was prevented by the Bolshevik Revolution and the locomotive had to be regauged from Russian broad gauge (1520mm/1524mm) to standard gauge (1435mm).
