South African Canberra BI.12

This model of a South African Air Force (SAAF) English Electric Canberra BI.12 (Bomber Interdictor, Type 12) was on display at the Shizuoka Hobby Show (Shizuoka, Japan).  It was used from 1963 to 1991, and saw combat in the Border War against Namibian separatists, who were eventually allowed to secede and establish their own country.  It also supported the army in Angola, Mozambique, Rhodesia, and Zambia.  After the Cold War ended, the government retired the Canberra bombers as part of a general reduction and modernization of the military.  One of these old jets is preserved in Pretoria, though it is a trainer, not a bomber.
