Sikorsky JRS-1 Flying Boat Restoration by rlkitterman Sikorsky JRS-1 Flying Boat Restoration by rlkitterman
In remembrance of Pearl Harbor.

One of the airplanes under restoration at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is a survivor from the 7 December 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.  It is a Sikorsky S-43/JRS-1 flying boat built in 1938 and used by the U.S. Navy.  It survived the attack, and spent World War II hunting for Japanese submarines in the Pacific Ocean, a task for which it was armed with depth charges.  It was retired in 1944.

Wow, I love this! First of all, beautiful airplane, second of all, seeing it covered like that... ghostly, very artistic and I had a bit of a chill going down my spine... :)
