PRR K4 and DD1

Description

Both of these Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives were introduced in the 1910s for passenger traffic, and both were capable of very high speeds, but they are very different otherwise.  The steam locomotive is K4 Pacific No. 3750, built by Altoona in 1918 as a "front-rank" express-passenger locomotive.  The electric is DD1 (double 4-4-0) Nos. 3936/3937, built by Juniata in 1911 to pull coaches in the Manhattan area, where steam was forbidden.  I am not sure if 3750 and 3936/3937 ever met in service, but we can see them together at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.

Fun fact: The K4 Pacific was studied by Nigel Gresley, who incorporated elements of its design into the LNER A1/A3 Pacifics such as the Flying Scotsman.

If I remember correctly, later in there service life the DD1's were used as back engines on the horseshoe curve and were known for smashing couples due to how much horsepower they had, which was around 3,000hp. It was ether the DD1's or some other locomotive.
