PRR Electric Shunter 5690

The Pennsylvania Railroad B1 was a class of 0-6-0 electric shunters introduced in 1926. Altoona built 42 units with parts from Westinghouse and Allis-Chalmers. The locomotives were assigned to passenger-coach yards in New York City, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg. By the 1960s, the sharp nationwide decline in passenger traffic had largely eliminated the need for carriage shunters, and the B1 class was retired and scrapped. Only No. 5960, built in 1934, survived to be preserved in the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum.
