Description

The North Wales Memorial Arch is also known as the Bangor Memorial Arch or the North Wales Heroes Memorial.  This structure, which resembles a cross between a Romanesque triumphal arch and a medieval castle gateway, was built in Bangor in 1923 to honor soldiers from North Wales (Gwynedd and Powys) who died in the First World War.  The arch contains a full list of the fallen soldiers, and bears the Welsh inscription "Er Cof am Ddewrion, Gwynedd a Phowys, 1914-1918" (In Remembrance of the Valiant, Gwynedd and Powys, 1914-1918).  The arch stands at the corner of Glanrafon Hill and Deiniol Road near the campus of Bangor University, which joined the Royal British Legion, the War Memorials Trust, the Gwynedd county council, and Cadw (Welsh national heritage trust) in restoring the memorial in 2011.

Very good shot of a dignified edifice.
