Oigawa Railway ex-Japanese National Railways (JNR) 2-6-2 tank engine C12.164 was built 80 years ago in 1937 (Showa Year 12) by Nippon Sharyo, whose factory made 110 of the 282 C12 locomotives. When I saw it parked at the Shin-Kanaya railyard on a cool, windy autumn day, it had not yet been taken into the workshop to be restored to operating condition, but it appeared to be in good shape and rolled freely enough that restoration should not be too much work compared to other steam locomotives.
a very nice locomotive great shot
Thanks! I didn't know much about Japanese engines before I moved to Japan, and now that I'm back home I wish they were better known.
Very interesting locomotive, I hope she'll be back under steam soon.
