Description

When the Norfolk and Western Railway (N&W) dieselized, it assigned EMD GP9 locomotives to passenger trains.  Painted to match the coaches, these Geeps were nicknamed Redbirds.  A few are still around, such as No. 620 at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer.  It is maintained in operating condition, and is run fairly frequently.
