Description
The McDonnell XF-85 Goblin was an experimental jet-powered parasite fighter first tested in 1948. It was intended to work around the problem of short-range fighters escorting long-range bombers by being suspended from a Boeing B-29 Superfortress or Convair B-36 Peacemaker. Development of the Goblin was cancelled in 1949 when aerial refuelling techniques let fighters keep up with bombers. The Goblin is on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio).
