Japanese Imperial Train

Description

These Japanese imperial train carriages were built for the Meiji emperor by the Shimbashi carriage works around the turn of the century.  I assume they were also used in the Taisho and Showa periods, though the Saitama Railway Museum has very little information on them.  Perhaps they are still owned by the Imperial Household Agency, which might explain why they are kept behind a glass wall and their histories are not on the museum website.  The Emperor still uses a train from time to time in the Heisei period, albeit an electric train rather than a steam locomotive pulling coaches.
