As snow begins falling on the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum in Kyoto, JNR Hudson (4-6-4) C62.2 prepares to haul a short excursion train. Technically speaking, this is the first Japanese steam locomotive I saw, though it was as a scale model at the National Railway Museum (York, England). It still wears the logo of the Tsubame (Swallow) Express on its smoke deflectors.
