JNR 2-10-4 Heavy Tank E10.2

The last steam locomotive class commissioned by Japanese National Railways (JNR) was the 2-10-4 E10 tank engine, which was introduced in 1948.  JNR obtained a special dispensation from the American occupation, which normally restricted locomotive production, as it needed this 102-ton heavy tank engine to help trains up steep hills.  Only five were built by Kisha Seizo and Osaka.  The sole survivor E10.2 is on display at Ome Railway Park.
