JNR 1st-Class Pullman Maine 40.7

After its post-WWII establishment, JNR commissioned new rolling stock, including several classes of steel passenger coaches.  One class was the Maine 40 sleeping car, which was equipped with first-class seating that could transform into sleeping compartments.  Because of this configuration, the Maine 40 cars were nicknamed Pullmans.  These cars had another four sleeping compartments, bringing the capacity to 22 passengers.  Long since retired from the Tokyo-Kyushu express, Maine 40.7 is on display at SCMAGLEV and Railway Park in Nagoya.  Sadly, the night trains have lost their passengers to the bullet trains, and most have been eliminated.
