Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-8

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Wurger (Shrike) was the better of the two main fighters used by the German Luftwaffe in World War II, as it was faster and stronger than the Messerschmitt Bf 109.  Over the course of the war, some were used as fighter-bombers rather than interceptors, such as this F-8 which flew with Ground Attack Wing 2 on the Eastern Front.  Even with a full load of bombs, it could fly at 400 miles per hour.  After the German surrender, the fighter was taken to America on HMS Reaper and studied by the U.S. Air Force.  It is now on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center.
