Description

Before the jet age, the Douglas DC-3 was the world's best airliner.  Starting in 1936, over 16,000 DC-3s were sold to airlines around the world, and a few are still in use today.  This DC-3 belonged to Eastern Airlines until it was retired and put on display in the Smithsonian.

For a number of years, this particular aircraft held the distinction of holding the record of highest number of in-flight service hours. That record has since been captured by another aircraft.
