Description

Built by the Voroshilovgrad/Lugansk Locomotive Works in what is now Ukraine, the Soviet-designed M62 diesel locomotive was exported to most of the Communist bloc during the Cold War.  The East German State Railways (Deutsche Reichsbahn/DR) officially designated it Class 120, but it was nicknamed "Taigatrommel" (Taiga Drum) for its loud engine.  This HO-scale model at the Hara Model Railway Museum in Yokohama, Japan is on display as 120.245, which was probably reclassified as a 220-class engine by German Railways (Deutsche Bahn) before being either scrapped or sold abroad.  About thirty "Taigatrommels" were sold to the North Korean State Railway, which greatly appreciated getting these cheap, simple locomotives and converted a few from diesel to electric power.

Typical soviet bloc vehicle for a Warsaw Pact country like East Germany. :wow:
