China-Burma-India Engineers and C-46 Commando

Shortly before World War II, the Engineering Aviation Battalion of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was established to build and maintain runways and airbases.  As WWII continued and America became more involved, the engineers eventually consisted of 51 battalions.  A diorama at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio) is dedicated to these engineers.  It is set in the China-Burma-India campaign of the Pacific War, and shows engineers using a bulldozer to set up a runway next to their Curtiss C-46 Commando transport.  Hats off to these engineers...without them, we couldn't have moved the troops and equipment we needed to win the war.
