CNJ Boxcab Diesel No. 1000

At the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum, one of the engines on display is the Central Railroad of New Jersey No. 1000. This boxcab diesel-electric locomotive was built in 1924 by a consortium of Alco (chassis and running gear), General Electric (generator, motor, and controls), and Ingersoll-Rand (diesel engine itself). It was the world's first commercially successful diesel locomotive. CNJ No. 1000 was used for shunting until it was retired and preserved in the museum.
