Boeing RB-47H Recon Stratojet

In the 1950s, the U.S. Air Force needed to boost its intelligence-gathering abilities, and converted 35 Boeing B-47 Stratojet bombers to RB-47 recon planes.  An RB-47H is preserved at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio).  As part of the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, it flew from Turkey and Japan, spying on the Soviet air-defense network.  Thanks to its six jet engines and swept-back wings, it could exceed 600 miles per hour.
