Balls Out Model

This model of a World War II-era U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) Republic P-47D Thunderbolt fighter was exhibited at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (Chantilly, Virginia) as Balls Out, whose nose art depicted a charging bull.  Like a bull, a Thunderbolt was hard to stop -- while it couldn't outmaneuver a Messerschmitt or Zero, it could survive attacks that brought down many other fighters.  The real Balls Out is kept flying by Lewis Air Legends of San Antonio, Texas.
