Avro Vulcan B.2 XL318

The Avro Vulcan was the most famous of the Royal Air Force's three Cold War-era V-bombers.  B.2-type Vulcan XL318 was built in 1961 and assigned to the 617th Bomber Squadron (the WWII-era Dambusters), where it was equipped with Blue Steel nuclear weapons, which were thankfully never used in combat.  It attempted to fly to Karachi, Pakistan in 1963 but had to stop at RAF Akrotiri Base in Cyprus after it burst four tires on the landing gear during a landing caused by a false fire warning.  XL318 was involved in a lot of weapons testing, but missed the 1982 Falklands War with Argentina, as it was retired in 1981 and donated to the RAF Hendon museum in London.
