100 Years of Tokyo Station

On December 20, 1914, Tokyo Station opened in the Marunouchi neighborhood, and it has spent the past 100 years becoming Tokyo's main long-distance railway station.  It was bombed in World War II but survived, and made railway history in 1964 when the first Shinkansen bullet train left Tokyo for Osaka.  Unlike many other old stations in Japan, Tokyo Station has escaped demolition, and the old hotel and recently-restored domed entrance halls still stand.
